The Harcourt and Spires Courses

Footgolf, Disc Golf and Pitch & Putt

PITCH & PUTT on The Spires Course

Layout of pitch and putt course

Many golfers started out with pitch and putt, enjoying the simplicity of just two clubs a ball and no pressure.  It’s a fun introduction to a wonderful sport that can be enjoyed for a lifetime.

Pitch & putt is great for family time, work outings, sports teams, stag and hen parties and simply for golfers practicing their short game.  If you are not yet confident enough to venture onto the golf course, this can fill the gap, and is a pleasant change from firing ball after ball at the driving range (and we have one of those too, so you can mix it up if you like!)

Pitch and Putt courses have traditionally been either in shared spaces, like public parks, or have holes that are crammed together in a small space which is not very forgiving for a novice golfer.

At Hinksey Heights, we have laid out 9-holes of pitch & putt on our Spires Course in 6 hectares (or nearly 15 acres) of space in such a way that the errant shots are less likely to result in a lost ball or endangering others.  It is away from our main golf course and our footgolf and disc golf course and has some interesting slopes and varying views of Oxford and surrounding countryside from the hillside location.

The holes range from 63 to 132 yards (or 57 to 119 metres) from tee to green.

If you don’t have any clubs, no problem!  For a small charge, we have a 9-iron and a putter for you to hire at reception in The 19th Hole, catering for left and right handed men, women and children.

DISC GOLF on The Harcourt Course

Also known as Frisbee Golf and invented in America, Disc Golf has become massively popular and is played under rules set by the Professional Disc Golf Association.  It is also (and mostly) played just for fun in small groups of friends, family, colleagues and team mates, just like Footgolf.

Disc Golf shares the Harcourt Course with Footgolf and the 18 targets are set up close to the Footgolf Holes.

The yellow metal targets have a basket with a rim that is 82cm off the ground, with hanging chains above the basket to catch your disc or frisbee.

It normally takes between 1.5 and 2 hours to complete the course.  Each player needs a disc or frisbee and these can be hired should you not have your own.

Footgolf and Disc Golf are ideal for birthday celebrations, team building, school outings, stag and hen parties or simply playing and relaxing with family, friends and colleagues.

FOOTGOLF on The Harcourt Course

Lads playing footgolf

Invented in The Netherlands in 2008 Footgolf arrived at Hinksey Heights in 2015 with the introduction of one of the few dedicated 18 hole Footgolf courses in the UK.

Footgolf is played on our Harcourt Course overlooking Oxford and offers an enjoyable challenge for all ages and all abilities with a football. As with golf, the aim is to get around the course in as few kicks as possible.  The rules are very simple and we still have not found anyone who could not play it!

It normally takes between 1.5 and 2 hours to complete the course.  Each player needs a football and we have balls to hire should you not bring your own.

Please note the following

Dress Code

  • Feet:  To protect the greens and tee boxes, no studded boots can be worn on the course.  Trainers or AstroTurf boots only.  Make sure you wear comfortable socks with a bit of thickness as these can provide an extra padding for your kicks as well as keeping your feet warm in colder weather.
  • Shirts must be worn at all times on the course and around the clubhouse.
  • Otherwise, we recommend clothes that will not inhibit your finest kicks!
