Famous for the classic dreaming spires view over Oxford, a stroll at Hinksey Heights Nature Park takes you through green grazed fields, a wooded valley, a curious hillside, wetlands and a stream.
As you make your way through the park on a boardwalk constructed by pupils from a local school, you will find a Talking Tree trail in which eight trees speak through illustrated signs. Each tree tells its own tale about local ecology and traditional culture.
As well as being a tranquil and intriguing place for walkers, as an Oxfordshire County Wildlife Site because of a curious hillside fen, 68 species of bird, 19 species of butterfly and 8 species of dragonfly have been recorded at the site. Hinksey Heights Nature Park hosts a project run in partnership by Siren and the Oxford Excellence Cluster of schools. Through this project, children reconnect with nature, learning about the environment and increasing their confidence and self-esteem. Their works of art, inspired by the site, can also be seen on the tree trail. Older pupils from Peers School have built a boardwalk, benches, tables and shelters with funding from Awards for All.
